After living with my parents in Bridgend for 20 years I decided that I needed to start afresh. With dreams of riches I emigrated to Kirkwall to try and make a living. I became a teacher and, after a few years of hard work, I had saved enough to go back home and visit my parents for a few weeks. We had arranged for them to come and pick me up from the airport and then drive me home. So, I arrived on time and managed to claim my luggage – luck was on my side as they were the first bags off the plane. I hurried to the exit and stood there, looking round for their car. There I stood for an hour and a half. Confused, I decided to look at my phone to see if they had tried to contact me. My phone was turned off, so I switched it back on and waited. Three missed calls! So I rang my parents to ask what was going on. Apparently they had set off and broken down after half the journey, so they were stranded at a garage near Cowbridge and would I be able to pick them up!? That’s just typical of them, no concern for my predicament, they just want me to sort it out and help them, regardless of the problems I face in doing it. So, exasperated, I sat down on a wall facing the airport, what on Earth was I going to do? I looked up and saw Cardiff Airport Car Rental and felt a sudden sense of relief which, I’m pleased to say, was not misplaced. They sorted me out with a car for good money and I was able to pick my parents up without any hassle. It’s always good to be home!!

History of Cardiff Airport
Filed under: Cardiff Airport Car Rental - 01 Feb 2010 | Spread the word !
Cardiff airport started in the 40′s when a wartime satellite aerodrome was set up in Cardiff and was used for Spitfire training. It was in the next century that the potential of the land for a commercial airport was recognised and Aer Lingus set up a service to Dublin. Soon there was a terminal building and flights to other European countries as well. Once the control was transferred from the MOD’s hands to the local council in 1965, there were transatlantic flights and the airport really began to be used a lot. In the 1980′s there were a lot more flights to and from the Mediterranean and this led to an extension of the runway. Now there are half a dozen flight operators based in the airport offering a good selection of options including flights to and from cities within the Uk as well as Spain, Netherlands, USA, the Caribbean and Ireland.
During the 1990′s there were even more routes added to the flight timetable and massive expansion of the departure lunge and improvements to the roads accessing the airport. It is now one of the most successful regional UK airports and has all of the facilities you would expect from such an airport such as six major operators flying in and out of the airport, car hire facilities, duty free, bars and restaurants. There are also airport hotels, bureau de change, airport car park and special help for disabled travellers. So everything you need from a small city airport.
